We’re a team of passionate high school students from Edmonton, and we’ve expanded to include our Fort McMurray and Medicine Hat friends too.

What we’ve done

Take a look below!

Cards for heroes

Last holiday season, Youth STEMming Change held its first ever Cards for Heroes initiative! Our team, along with youth from around the city, are all in great admiration of the many healthcare workers and staff who work very hard to positively contribute to the wellbeing of society, oftentimes sacrificing many things for the benefit of others and to put a smile on other people’s faces. Therefore, by hand-making and delivering physical cards, we at Youth STEMming Change wanted to acknowledge and thank these healthcare heroes at the Misericordia Community Hospital on behalf of the youth in Edmonton for their constant efforts to make the community a better place for us all. We would like to give a huge thank you to the students at St. Rose Junior High School for handwriting heart-warming wishes to these healthcare heroes and making this initiative a great success!

Science workshops

In May, Youth STEMming Change headed to John A. Mcdougall elementary school to provide a presentation to the amazing students in the Discovery Lab club.  The team provided an educational yet entertaining experience for the students, as we prepared a presentation, as well as an exciting activity! The team taught the wonderful students about bridges, engaging the students in topics featuring the different types of bridges, the forces working against them, and how we can counter those forces, using just a single shape: the triangle! We also tested what they learned, by having them participate in a bridge building contest! We were amazed by the potential and talent shown by the students in their bridge constructing skills, and are extremely thankful for the opportunity to teach such incredible students! We would also like to thank the OSA Key Club for providing such an opportunity, helping make the initiative a success!

More workshops

On Tuesday, June 13th, the Youth STEMming Change team visited John A McDougall Elementary School again to present information about rockets and organize a water bottle rockets activity. Check out the photos to see what they came up with! Thank you so much to OSA Key Club for providing this opportunity and to John A McDougall for having us!

Science lessons

Starting in September 2023, Youth STEMming Change will be holding weekly science lessons online taught by qualified high school students that will cover fascinating topics from many fields of science. These lessons will occur on weekends, and will be completely free to attend for students who are interested in not only having fun, but also meeting other people with a similar passion of science, as well as learning new things!

CEYC workshop

In September 2023, Youth STEMming Change headed to the University of Alberta to demonstrate a forensics workshop for the many individuals there to join! At this workshop, individuals participated in fingerprinting, DNA analysis, calligraphy analysis, and so much more!  We thank City of Edmonton Youth Council for helping provide this amazing opportunity to us, so that we could spread the knowledge of forensics to the various youth in Edmonton!
